Paula Rey
Betty Jo Fitzgerald has been painting
and printmaking for 22 years, and
maintains a studio and gallery in
Olympia, WA.
She says:
"I am a colorist with a pattern
fetish... I paint whimsical
kaleidoscopic agrarian landscapes
infused with high key color and dotted
with plant icons. Many of my paintings
and mono-prints are enhanced and layered
with pastel, collaged etchings, rice
papers or watercolor crayon and pencil.
As I travel I try to assimilate the
color, texture, and pattern of a place.
Back in the studio, I take a great
pleasure in manipulating the scenery,
placing plants and insects in odd
contexts, adding arbitrary color and
painting with a conscious naiveté."
Many of the new paintings reflect Betty
Jo's recent studies from Costa Rica,
made with playful arrangements and
exuberant tropical colors.

Cameron Elder works mainly in mixed media and
collage. She says: " I collage just whatever strikes
my fancy at the time..." Cameron's constant artistic
search for unusual and humorous results in images of
people, animals, and abstract landscapes, striking
with the bold use of materials. Found objects,
cut-out images, layered and combined with painting,
create an interesting texture of Cameron's works,
and each one of them developed as a meaningful and
often whimsical story.

Paula Rey is a multi-media artist known for her
sculpture (clay, bronze, and public art),
paintings and fused glass.
In the exhibit she presents "theme" mirrors,
ranging in scale, with intricate fused glass
frames. Embellishments of the frames include
metal and jewelry pieces, Paula's original
drawings, incorporated in vibrantly colored
glass.
Design of the frames often remind an antic
window or a threshold frame, making the mirror a
symbolic entrance to a reversed reality with fun
and happy outlook.
These three artists create joyful art. Their fun
spirits and positive energy are contagious, the
exhibit is perfect for festive sunny month of
July.
